The primary focus of the department is to conduct developmental research of new coating systems, coating application methods and procedures and quality control testing methods.

The Research laboratory is staffed with chemists, engineers and technicians equipped with modern instruments and equipment.

On occasion in cooperation with leading coating manufacturers the department directs research to develop new coatings especially suitable for the Oil, gas and water industries.

The department also provides support for various local research organizations by giving technical guidance and analytical support.
